Debt snowball spreadsheet: list your debts once and it lays out the debt snowball month by month. The smallest balance is paid first, and each time a debt is paid off its payment rolls into the next one. See the payoff order, the month each debt is paid off, your debt-free date and the total interest, with a snowball vs avalanche comparison.
WHAT IT DOES
- Debts tab: up to 15 debts with name, balance, interest rate (APR), minimum payment and type (drop-down), plus the extra amount you can pay each month and the first month of the plan. A Check column flags a minimum payment that doesn't cover the monthly interest ("Min below interest") or a missing minimum, and each debt shows its months and interest at minimum payments only
- Snowball Plan: one row per month for up to 30 years with the target debt (the smallest balance still owing), what is paid to it, the snowball (your extra plus the payments rolled over from debts already paid off), total paid, interest charged, total left, which debt is paid off that month (green row) and a Done column to tick off each month you pay
- Payoff Order: your debts smallest balance first, with the payment each one gets on its turn, the month and date it is paid off and the interest paid on it
- Snowball vs avalanche: months, debt-free date and total interest for the snowball, the avalanche (highest rate first, same monthly budget) and minimums only, with the difference in months and interest
- Dashboard: total debt, monthly snowball budget, months to debt-free, debt-free date, total interest, interest saved vs minimums only, flagged debts, months ticked off and progress, the payoff order and a chart of the total left to pay, snowball vs minimums only
- The tabs are protected without a password, so formulas don't get typed over by accident (you can unprotect them any time)
WHAT YOU GET
- Debt-Snowball-Spreadsheet.xlsx (blank, ready for up to 15 debts)
- Debt-Snowball-Spreadsheet-with-Sample-Data.xlsx (a filled-in example: 6 made-up debts, one with a minimum payment below its interest so you can see the red flag)
- Quick-start guide (PDF)
HOW YOU GET IT
Digital download. After checkout you get a download page right away, plus a receipt by email. Nothing is shipped.
COMPATIBILITY
- Microsoft Excel 2016 or newer (Windows or Mac) and Excel for the web
- Needs a computer or tablet with a spreadsheet app. This is not an app: you type in your debts
GOOD FOR
Anyone paying off several debts (credit cards, store cards, medical bills, car, student and personal loans) who wants the debt snowball method laid out month by month: which debt to pay next, how big the snowball gets and when each debt is paid off.
PLEASE NOTE
- The plan uses the same total payment every month (all minimums plus your extra) and assumes no new charges. Interest is worked out monthly at APR / 12 and rounded to the cent, so the results are close to, not exactly, your statements
- Our Debt Payoff Tracker is a general snowball and avalanche tracker with the same payoff math. This file is built around the snowball, with the month by month snowball schedule, the payoff order and a Done column, so please don't buy both by mistake
- For your own use; please don't resell or share the files
