Grocery budget tracker spreadsheet for Canadian households who do one big shop every week or two. Log each trip on its own tab, and the workbook adds up the subtotal, sales tax and trip total, then keeps a running total for the year on the Dashboard.
WHAT IT DOES
- 50 trip tabs, each with about 70 common grocery and household items in 10 groups: produce, meat and seafood, dairy and eggs, bread and baking, pantry, spices, frozen, snacks, beverages, health and household
- Type the quantity and unit price for what you bought; subtotal, tax and total fill in for you
- 6 blank rows on every trip for anything not on the list, and you can rename any item
- Pick your province once and household (Non-Food) items are taxed at its combined GST/HST and PST/QST rate. Food rows stay untaxed. Change any line's tax type to match your receipt
- Dashboard: total spent, trips logged, average trip, highest trip, a running total, and a spend-per-trip chart
- Click a trip name on the Dashboard to jump to that tab
- Sales tax table for all 13 provinces and territories, with rates you can edit if one changes
WHAT YOU GET
- Bulk-Grocery-Trip-Tracker.xlsx. Trip 01 and Trip 02 hold invented sample purchases so you can see it working; clear them before you start. Trips 03 to 50 are empty
- Quick-start guide (PDF)
HOW YOU GET IT
Digital download. After checkout you get a download page right away, plus a receipt by email. Nothing is shipped.
COMPATIBILITY
- Microsoft Excel 2016 or newer, Microsoft 365 (Windows or Mac) and Excel for the web
- Google Sheets: upload the .xlsx to Google Drive, open it, then File > Save as Google Sheets
- Also opens in LibreOffice (Apple Numbers not tested). Needs a computer or tablet with a spreadsheet app
PLEASE NOTE
Made for Canadian provinces and territories. Tax is simplified: Food rows are untaxed and Non-Food rows are taxed at your province's combined rate. Many basic groceries are zero-rated, but some foods (snacks, soft drinks, prepared food) can be taxable, so match the tax type to your receipt. The rates in the file are inputs: check them against current government rates. A tracking tool, not tax advice. For personal use; please don't resell or share the file.
