Homeschool planner spreadsheet for up to 4 children in one file: daily attendance, hours by subject against your planned hours, weekly lesson plans, grades, a reading log and curriculum spending, with a one-page year summary for each child and a dashboard that shows every child side by side.
WHAT IT DOES
- Setup tab: the first and last day of your school year, an as-of date for pace (empty = today), a spending budget, up to 4 children with a grade, a days goal and an hours goal, 10 renamable subjects (starter list: Math, Reading, Writing, Science, History, Geography, Art, Music, Physical education, Second language) with planned hours for each child, up to 15 days off or breaks (From and To dates) and 8 renamable spending types
- Attendance tab: one row for every day of your school year, filled in from your start date. Type P (present), H (half day) or A (absent) for each child. Weekends and your days off are shaded. Totals per child (present, half days, absent, days attended, % of your days goal), school days in the year and so far, and days attended by month
- Hours Log tab (1,500 rows): date, child, subject, minutes and notes. Hours add up by subject and child and by month. Each subject gets a pace status: Done, On track, Behind or No plan, by comparing hours with planned hours x the share of school days done. A Check column says OK or the first problem: pick a child, pick a subject, minutes missing, date outside the school year
- Lessons tab (500 rows): week of, child, subject, lesson or plan, pages or materials, and Done (Y). Lessons planned, done and % done per child
- Grades tab (500 rows): date, child, subject, assignment, score and out of. Averages by subject for each child, worked out as points earned / points possible
- Reading Log (300 rows): child, title, author, pages and date finished, with books finished and pages read per child
- Curriculum and Spending (200 rows): date, item, type, for which child (or all children), subject and amount, with spent so far vs your budget, by type and by child
- Year Summary: pick a child for one page with days attended vs goal, absent days, hours vs goal, lessons done, books finished, average grade, and a table of every subject with planned hours, hours logged, expected by now, status and average grade, plus a chart of hours logged vs expected
- Dashboard: school days so far and in the year, share of the year done, rows to check, spending, a row per child (days attended, hours, lessons done, average grade, subjects behind) and hours by month with a chart
- The tabs are protected without a password, so formulas don't get typed over by accident (you can unprotect them any time)
WHAT YOU GET
- Homeschool-Planner-Spreadsheet.xlsx (blank, ready for your school year and children)
- Homeschool-Planner-Spreadsheet-with-Sample-Data.xlsx (a filled-in example: three made-up children with about two months of records)
- Quick-start guide (PDF)
HOW YOU GET IT
Digital download. After checkout you get a download page right away, plus a receipt by email. Nothing is shipped.
COMPATIBILITY
- Microsoft Excel 2016 or newer (Windows or Mac) and Excel for the web
- Needs a computer or tablet with a spreadsheet app. This is not an app: you type in your days, hours, lessons and grades
GOOD FOR
Homeschooling parents with one to four children who keep attendance, hours or subject records and want them in one file, with a clear year summary for each child when it is time to look back on the year.
PLEASE NOTE
- Many states, provinces and school boards ask homeschooling families to keep attendance, hours or subject records. This file helps you keep those records in one place, but the rules differ from place to place: check what your own state or province asks for
- School days are Monday to Friday minus the days off you list. A P typed on a weekend still counts as a day attended
- Hours goals, days goals and planned hours are your own numbers; the file does not set them for you
- For a classroom teacher's attendance or grades, see our Attendance Tracker and Gradebook
- For your own family's use; please don't resell or share the files
DISCLAIMER
This template is an organising and record-keeping tool, not legal or educational-compliance advice, and does not replace advice from your local education authority or a qualified professional. It does not file or send any report for you. Check your own state or province rules for what you must keep or report.
HOW IT WAS MADE
Designed by VARS Digital with AI-assisted tools. Every formula is checked before release, and the sample file shows each tab working.
