Electrician Pricing Calculator

Price an electrical job from your hours, materials, permit and overhead, plus your margin. The calculator gives the job price, the price per device or fixture and the revenue per labour hour, so per device quotes still cover the real job.

Labour cost$228
Overhead$85
Total job cost$653
Price to quote$933
Profit$280
Markup on cost42.9%
Price per device$93.31
Revenue per labour hour$156

Before sales tax, GST or HST. Works in any currency: the $ is just a label. Example numbers only: replace them with your own costs.

What to count in an electrical price

Worked example

With one person for 6 hours at $38 an hour, $220 in wire, boxes, devices and fittings, $120 in permit and travel, 15% overhead and a 30% margin, the job costs $653 and the price comes to $933. That is $93.31 per device for 10 devices or fixtures, $280 profit, and a 42.9% markup on cost.

Margin is not markup

Margin is profit as a share of the price; markup is profit as a share of your cost. A 30% margin needs a 42.9% markup, because the profit is measured against a smaller number. Mixing the two up can leave a busy season with less money than you planned. This calculator asks for the margin you want and shows the matching markup.

Price every job this way, and keep the records

The Electrician Estimate & Job Costing workbook (C$19.00, Excel, also opens in Google Sheets) keeps your rates in one price book, builds a printable client quote, and tracks what each job really cost and made, so your next price is based on your own numbers.

Questions

SHOULD I PRICE PER DEVICE OR PER HOUR?

Per device is quick to quote, but access and wiring runs change the hours a lot. Run the calculator with the real hours to check the per device number holds.

DOES THIS INCLUDE CODE REQUIREMENTS?

No. It prices the work you plan. What the job must include is set by your local code and inspector.

This calculator is a planning tool, not financial or tax advice. Check the results against your own records before you rely on them.
